A Japanese airline has revealed new details about its collaboration with the TV anime Golden Kamuy, a series set in Hokkaido, highlighting how anime IP can drive regional branding and tourism marketing.
Launched in November under the concept “ADVENTURE HOKKAIDO,” the campaign connects AIRDO’s 11 Hokkaido routes with the world of Golden Kamuy. The collaboration features newly illustrated character visuals displayed on aircraft near the boarding doors, along with a dedicated campaign website that presents story elements, character introductions, and route information in an integrated format. Limited-edition merchandise has also been introduced, with characters depicted wearing AIRDO uniforms to reinforce the crossover between aviation branding and anime culture.
The product lineup includes acrylic stands and pin badges available through AIRDO Online Marché, with pre-orders beginning January 15. In-flight exclusive stickers are scheduled for release from March 2026, followed by clear files from July 2026. All items will be sold in limited quantities across AIRDO routes, creating scarcity and collectibility tied directly to the travel experience.
What makes collaborations like this effective is that they connect a real place to an existing narrative world. Fans are not simply responding to a promotional campaign—they are responding to the feeling of stepping into the story itself. That emotional connection can influence concrete behavior, from choosing specific routes to visiting featured locations and engaging more deeply with the region. In this way, anime IP moves beyond entertainment and becomes a strategic tool for tourism activation and regional differentiation.
