This policy explains how CATACI LLC collects and uses personal data when you visit cataci.com, contact us through the contact form or write to us by email.
1. Who we are
CATACI LLC (合同会社CATACI) is a manga, illustration and animation studio registered in Japan. We are responsible (the “controller”) for the personal data described in this policy.

2. What data we collect
When you contact us
- Your name, email address and company or organisation
- Details of your inquiry: type of request, project type, budget range, timeline, message and any files you upload
- Your answers to the confirmation checkboxes on the form
- Technical details sent with the form: IP address, the page you used, date and time
When you browse the website
- Cookies and similar technologies that are needed for the website to work and to remember your cookie choices, as described in our cookie banner (CookieYes). We do not use analytics or advertising cookies.
- Your IP address, which our website uses to show you the right language version and to protect the site against spam and attacks.
If you subscribe to our newsletter
Your email address and subscription preferences, managed through Mailchimp. We send newsletters only occasionally, and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any of our emails.
3. Why we use your data, and on what legal basis
- To answer your inquiry and prepare a proposal or estimate. This is a step you ask us to take before a possible contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)). The consent checkbox on the form records that you agree to this use.
- To run a project with you if you become a client, including sharing the necessary brief with the artists, writers and translators working on it, under confidentiality (Art. 6(1)(b)).
- To protect the website and our inbox against spam and abuse (our legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f)).
- To meet legal obligations, for example accounting and tax records for client work (Art. 6(1)(c)).
We do not sell your personal data and do not use it for automated decision-making.
4. Service providers we use
We share personal data only with providers that help us run the website and our business:
- Google Workspace (Google) – email, including delivery and storage of contact form messages
- Xserver Inc. (Japan) – hosting of the website
- CleanTalk – spam filtering of form submissions (checks details such as email address, IP address and message)
- CookieYes – management of your cookie choices
- Mailchimp (Intuit) – newsletter
When you become a client, the artists, writers and translators working on your project may receive the information they need to do the work, under confidentiality obligations.
5. International transfers
CATACI is based in Japan. The European Commission has recognised Japan as providing an adequate level of data protection (adequacy decision of 2019, confirmed in its 2023 review), and the United Kingdom recognises the same. Some of our service providers may process data in other countries, such as the United States. Where this happens, they rely on recognised safeguards such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
6. How long we keep your data
- Inquiries that do not lead to a project: 24 months, then deleted.
- Correspondence and records for client projects: for the duration of the project and as long as required by accounting and tax law (normally 7 years).
7. Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its use, or to receive it in a portable format. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. To use these rights, email in***@****ci.com. We reply within one month.
You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority, for example the CNIL in France (cnil.fr) or the data protection authority in your own country, and in Japan to the Personal Information Protection Commission.
8. Additional information for visitors in the United States
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. Our website does not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals; you can manage cookies at any time through the cookie settings button on our website. To ask what personal data we hold about you, or to have it corrected or deleted, email in***@****ci.com.
9. Additional information under Japanese law
CATACI LLC handles personal information in accordance with Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI). Our name and address are given in section 1; our representative is Tadafumi Aoza, Founder and Director. The purposes for which we use personal information are listed in section 3. You may ask us to disclose, correct, add to or delete your personal information, or to stop using or providing it to third parties, by emailing in***@****ci.com.
10. Security
The website uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Access to inquiries and client files is limited to the people who need it to respond or to work on the project.
11. Children
Our services are intended for businesses and organisations. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
