New Release: Dark & Dreamy Tales from Japan Illustrated with CATACI Collaboration

CATACI is delighted to share our involvement in a new illustrated book that introduces the beauty and mystery of Japanese folklore to a global audience.
Dark & Dreamy Tales from Japan: Curious Legends from the Greatest Storytellers on Earth was published in the United States on August 5, 2025, and will be released this month in the United Kingdom and worldwide.
This stunning collection features twenty-one traditional Japanese tales, including beloved classics such as The Tongue-Cut Sparrow, Urashima Taro, The Bamboo Cutter and the Moon Child, and The Ogre of Rashōmon. Readers are invited into a world of magical animals, terrifying demons, and unforgettable adventures — stories that continue to inspire anime, film, and literature around the world.
The illustrations were created in collaboration with CATACI, combining a manga-inspired style with timeless storytelling. Each artwork captures the atmosphere and emotion of these legends, making them accessible to both longtime fans of Japanese culture and new readers discovering it for the first time.
This project reflects CATACI’s mission to connect authentic Japanese storytelling with international publishing markets, delivering artwork that adapts cultural heritage for today’s audiences.
We are delighted to see Dark & Dreamy Tales from Japan reaching bookshelves across the globe, and to contribute to sharing the richness of Japanese folklore with readers everywhere.
